Better journal, color graphics, pictures.
-----
Emphasize links between APL and more common products (I was pleased
when []NA finally appeared and am excited by the DDE DDL features
and free run-time package in APL*PLUS III).

I don't know.

More emphasis/discussion on standardization. Big topic in c.l.a.
-----
I would like to become an active member if I start using APL.

Increase business-oriented educational content of conference/

Promote work on a free unix apl.

It's already excellent: I'd like a science (data analysis applications
column and product info vis-a-vis platforms such as mac...)

An E-broadcast or published schedule of meetings, because I always
seem to notice the thing in cla after it happens! A well-organized
bibliograpy of functional libraries (aka numerical recipes in APL)
would be nice.

By improving the language - introducing control structures, data typing,
banalities like being able to read non-APL files and portability. Yes,

First (and last) SIGAPL conference I attended was 87-Dallas...
There was an offer to register as a SIGAPL member then, at an
introductory rate. If memory serves me well, I filled out a
registration form and deposited some fees (I think), but never
heard anything after that.

As a chair of a local ACM SIG APL I am interested if SIGAPL would be
willing to help find speakers for our meetings. It seems that all of the
North American SIGs plan their own agendas though xxx and xxx
have shared efforts in the past. Likewise, vendors provide a common
'tour of SIGs'. But can SIGAPL come up with interesting speakers and
topics and either help coordinate a tour; pay for a tour; or even help
chairs find speakers?

1. Better, cheaper conferences
2. More support to local chapters; assistance in finding speakers,
help in putting on events like TOT professional dev. seminars,
with an eye toward practical tutorial/workshop content.
3. More practitioner-oriented material in QQ -- along the lines of
the 'Extension Notes' of the APL perspective.
4. A well-organized, well-cataloged S/W library: the stuff that the
S/W lib BOF set out to do in/after St. Petersburg. Note: what all
this amounts to is good cheap tools either supplied by SIGAPL or
enough info to build them coming from SIGAPL.
-----
Most "articles" are one or two pages long, way too short to address a
problem seriously. I would like to see longer "papers", even if they
have to be printed 2-up or 4-up. Submissions should not be rejected
because they are a better fit for the Conference, because most people
cannot afford to goto APL conferences to present papers. Even if a
submission is deemed worthy of "mainstream" press, it should still be
accepted by QQ; after all it should be the decision of the authors.
I never received official reply regarding my submission to the QQ
(although it has gained some notority for creating a conflict between
the current and the previous editors). Compared to Vector, the QQ
seems to lack meat and guts. Please change this.

SIGAPL should get APL vendors to be more compatible and to solve
poratability and font problems that users of several APLs have
to deal with. Push standards. Make a decision on whether J

The Washington, DC meetings are rather inconvenient for me. Especially
on weekdays, I rely on public transit. I live beyond the XXX Station,
on the end of the XXX Line, which makes for a long trip home. The
busses stop running to my home after XXpm. Saturday meetings are
generally best, but 10am is a bit early for me. I have to have a
very good reason to scramble out the house early on the weekend.

Keep showing examples of APL in use, Legi-Slate article was a very
interesting and good example of APL strengths. [comments continue

Need to keep remembering that APL is the best designed tool for doing
software systems, not a tool for linking together different packages
such as data bases etc. We need to keep trying to be able to do
all things a computer can do in APL, e.g. databases, graphics,
networking...

Organize conferences not devoted to APL only, but to algorithmic
sciences.

Rather than trying to hit people with how good APL really is, maybe
you should try to enhance people's awareness of how much APL is used
out there, so we're not all left with the feeling that we're the only
ones using it. For instance, which commercial software is written in
APL? As I see it, the APL world is shrinking. I'm sure this is the
case, but how can I tell?

Offer incentives, yes including financial, for teaching APL to others.
SIGAPL could offer APL teacher training and perhaps certify good APL
instructors.

Development of standard tools (a la toronto toolkit...) available
electronically/etc for different apls there should be routines for
eigenanalysis, integration, random processes, special functions...
code for lots of these exist and is available in some places, but it
would be nice if there were more uniformly available to all. There would
need to be an index etc... Standardization of the language - nests vs.
bes. I know this is impossible without vendor support, and they seem
to be diverging, witness APL III...
