The collection "1993q4.tar" is intended to have news articles from
comp.lang.apl for the fourth quarter of 1993, the interval from Oct 1
to Dec 31.

During that interval, our news machine was changed, and
unfortunately the numbers of the articles in that interval
are a part of two different numeric sequences.

Articles with submission dates from October 1 to October 10th were in
files names named "3393" to "3428", inclusive, and these names have been
changed to "3393.on" to "3428.on".  Here the "on" stands for Old
Numbers.

Articles from October 11th forward now follow the new numbering
sequence, starting with number 2450.  By changing the names of the
files in the old sequence, and so on, we will avoid name conflicts
with new message numbers, whenever the numbering of articles in the
new sequence catches up to 3393.

However, readers are warned that there will be file name conflicts for
files dating from Feb 16 to Sep 31 (old sequence) with articles dating
from Oct 11th and forward for about 942 articles.

We are sorry about this potential confilct.  You  may think of a
work-around, such as renaming the old files, or keeping them in a
separate directories.  In this archive, only the files in the early
part of the fourth quarter have been renamed.

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience this may cause.
We hope that convenience of the availability of the files themselves
outweighs the slight inconvenience of the name clashes.
