The best advice I can give you is a tell you what John Baer says in his
book, "Computer Wimp", published by the Ten Speed Press.  In this book,
he says to pick the software first, then pick the machine that runs
it.

See the FAQ file for this news group for the best list of APL
interpreters I know of There are excellent APLs for the PC:  take a
look at STSC*APL Plus from Manugistics, Dyalog APL, APL2 from IBM,
and Watcom APL.  For the Mac, there is APL.68000.  Last time I looked,
it was the fastest, when running on machines of comparable speed, 
probably because it is written in assembly code.
