There is a publication called "the Actuarial Digest" which is free
to working actuaries. Basically it is a forum for :

  1. Employers to recruit actuarial talent without using
     employment agencies, and

  2. A forum for software developers to pitch their products.
Infact, the fees advertisers pay allow "the Actuarial Digest"
to provide their publication free to employed actuaries.

I am posting this so that those of you who are writting APL
applications might think of this publication as a possible place
to market your products. Here are two examples :

<>
from the August/September `92 issue :
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

                   S C R U B A P L

t h a t ' s r i g h t , g i v e i t a b a t h .

We clean up APL applications for a living, and we specialize
in actuarial applications:

This is typical:

"The actuary who wrote the APL application rotated to another
department. No one else can read the code. Our auditors are
going nuts. Can you document it and clean it up so we can
   maintain it?"

"We want to move from the mainframe to the PC but the APL programs
are MUCH too slow. Can you speed them up by a factor of 10 or
more while keeping the APL readable?"

"The illustration system was written in APL by an actuary. It works,
but it is not very user-friendly. Can you put a full-screen interface
on it, and make sure erroneous input won't cause it to bomb?"

"We need to do an experience study on 5 million records. I've heard
that APL can process the records faster than COBOL! I don't believe it.
  Show me how."

"These interative Universal Life accumulation formulas are bringing
our computer to its knees. Can you compute the values WITHOUT looping?"

Most APL applications can be scrubbed clean in less than a week.

We GUARANTEE that your application will be faster, smaller, more reliable,
and esier to maintain, or your money back.

From the Feb/March 93 issue Zark says :

At last, APL training is available in an effective computer-based
training course.

At the press of a button. [F1]

. This is NOT just an APL textbook where the computer serves as
     an automated page flipper.

. And it is NOT just an interactive drill where you guess the
     results of APL expressions.

. It IS a highly interactive APL instructor with infinite patience
AND with a sense of humor. Who says learning a programming
     language has to be dull?

. The Zark APL Tutor installs itself in seconds and remains your
partner forever. Whenever you need a quick reminder or some words
of APL inspiration, just give the F1 key a poke.

   . And teach tyself.

Zark APL Tutor, $299, APL*PLUS PC format. Includes one year free enrollment
