I have some free advice (worth every penny ...).  You might consider
offering the person "going through statistics" an APL or J system, so that
she can derive the functions herself, then use them to get the answers.
Much more meaningful experiments become possible when a computer is
available to do the dumb grunt work, and statistics may become less of
something that one "goes through" and more an interesting subject of study.
