J requires a compiler which understands C as specified by Kernighan
& Ritchie, 1st Edition, 1978.  It is known to work under GNU C.

The executable file differs in size depending on the machine.  For example,
   MIPS               245 K
   VAX/Ultrix         113
   Decstation/Ultrix  241
