I'm working on the design of a second generation compiler for APL and
J for large supercomputers. Charles Brenner and I wrote a crude one
for the Cray X-MP a few years ago as a research project with Mobil 
Research ("ACORN: APL to C on Real Numbers", ACM APL Quote Quad, Vol 20, no 4,
1990). Walter Schwarz did a very brief port of this to the CM-2.

Kluwer Academic, 1991).
