APL92, the international conference for APL, is taking place this year
at St. Petersburg, Russia, from 6 to 10 July, 1992. The conference site
is a training center, primarily used (until recently) by the Soviet power
industry. The traning center is being run privately, and has excellent
conference facilities. It is located about three miles from the center
of St. Petersburg, near a metro station with service to all parts of the
city. The Center can accommodate 250 people at reasonable cost, with
additional hotels available a few minutes away. Shuttle bus and taxi
service will be provided for transportation between the conference and
one of the hotels. Restaurants in the Center will be available for meals.
There will also be a coffee shop, and breaks during conference sessions,
for light refreshment during the day. These catering facilities are provided
under contract to APL92 by a Finnish restaurant company.

The conference will present 34 refereed papers in 2 parallel tracks, poster
sessions, workshops, plenary sessions with speakers in fields of interest to
APL users, a software exchange, vendor exhibits, and vendor forums. There
will be extensive facilities for informal discussions (inspired by the more
formal presentations, and on other topics), organized by special interest
groups and individual delegates. Before APL92, on 5 July, a Tutorial Day
is planned.

After APL92, there is a conference on Computer Science in Education. This
conference will take place aboard ship, which will cruise along the northern
rivers of Russia and visit the islands Kigi and Valaam; the centers of Russian
wooden architecture. APL92 delegates may attend this conference for the cost
of boarding.

Tours will be offered for accompanying persons during the conference, and
trips after the conference are being organized.

                     *** CALL FOR POSTERS ***
Poster sessions, and poster submissions, are traditional for
conferences in many technical disciplines. Posters are relatively
new to APL conferences, having been introduced first at APL89. The
name "Poster" comes from the practice of submitting material in the
form of a poster (or sign), which is displayed at the conference.

Posters are used to show novel ideas and reports of work in
progress. A separate session will be devoted to poster
presentation. Authors of posters can discuss the poster, and
distribute related materials as conference participants circulate
to discuss them.

If you would like to show a poster, please send a title and
abstract by 1 June to the APL92 conference office (see the back of
this brochure). We can include it in the final program, and ensure
that space will be available for your poster presentation.

     **** CALL FOR PARTICIPATION -- APL92 SOFTWARE EXCHANGE ****

The software exchange has proven to be a worthwhile APL conference activity.
We wish to continue and enhance this tradition. The best way to spread "the
language in common" is to provide working, documented examples of software,
so those attending APL92 can use these as examples for demonstrating APL.

Your contribution will be a welcome addition to this effort. Have you ever
written sets of routines and learned something from the experience? Can you
share this with others? We would be interested in general utilities,
mathematical routines, file, screen management and presentation tools,
graphics demonstrations, or complete systems. Look through your APL
software; is there anything others can use and learn from? If so, please
think about participating in the APL92 Software Exchange.

How to Participate:
Please write an abstract about your submission. Your description should
include an abstract of what your software does, and, in brief, how it is
used. The written summary should give potential users an overview of what
problem are being solved, and how it is done. Also, indicate what the
system (interpreter, environment, and hardware) on which your software
will run. Installation instructions are not needed for the abstract, but
are to be included in the submitted software.

We would appreciate your code more if it is concise and well-commented.
People will look to your software as an example, don't disappoint them with
unclear coding style. This is a good chance for you to be a leader!

Submit your abstract, and address (along with documentation) to:
Robert G. Brown Robert_Brown@mts.cc.Wayne.edu

This information will be used to provide an Exchange Catalog at APL92.

MS-DOS disks in any format can be processed by the exchange. We will try to
examine and migrate software submitted in other formats. Advance submissions
to the Software Exchange may be made available at APL92 in other formats. If
possible, some simple testing of your software, based on your documentation,
will be done. Untested software (and software that cannot be tested!) will
be labeled as such in the Catalog.

Software to be submitted has to be received by 1 June 1992 for distribution
in the Exchange package. If you plan to attend APL92, you may bring a
contribution along, but it will not be included in the Catalog. There will
be several machines available during APL92 for demonstration, discussion, and
duplication of your software, and it may be available after APL92.

                      ------------------------------------
If you are interested in receiving an advance program for this conference,
or wish to express interest in answering either call shown above, please
  reply to me; robert_brown@mts.cc.wayne.edu.
You'll get our 26 page brochure and registration packet about APL92 in
detail, instructiuons and forms for registrations, directions for getting
